Health Care Strategy FAQs

Why do our plans focus on consumerism?

We’re pursuing every efficiency available in holding down the cost of health care while still maintaining comprehensive, quality and affordable benefits. Companies that offer plans encouraging employees to evaluate medical costs and services, actively support employee health and provide decision-making tools and health care information are seeing positive results.
By offering a Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP) as one of our medical options, tax-advantaged savings opportunities through a Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), and support for preventive care and health screenings, we hope to lower the upward trend of health care expense and help employees and their families experience the longer-term benefits of good health.

Why not cover working spouses?

Our priority is to continue offering competitive coverage to those who need it most.
Spouses who are employed and have access to medical and/or dental coverage through their employer are not eligible to receive medical and/or dental benefits under the DallasNews Corporation plans.
However, spouses who are not eligible for coverage from an employer, are self-employed or have lost coverage as an active employee and have been offered COBRA qualify for the DallasNews Corporation plans. If you want spouse coverage for 2023, you must go through the online enrollment process and validate your spouse’s eligibility.
